Canine Laser Therapy in Wollongong

At Water Walkies, we use high-powered (Class 4) laser technology for quick and comprehensive injury rehabilitation treatment and pain management of your canine companion.

Non-Invasive, Pain-Free & Drug-Free

Our canine laser therapy provides a non-invasive, surgery-free, and drug-free treatment that is used to treat a variety of conditions and can be performed either in conjunction with existing treatments or as a stand-alone session. Its non-invasive nature means that it is pain-free, leading to a more relaxed and stress-free experience for your pet. This reduction in stress is critical for the overall wellbeing of your dog, who may already be dealing with an unimaginable amount of discomfort and anxiety from their condition.

Fast & Efficient Therapy

Canine laser therapy offers fast and efficient treatment for most conditions. Our state-of-the-art device features multiple therapy modes, allowing us to tailor treatments specifically to your dog's skin colour, pain levels, and unique needs. This customised approach, combined with the exceptional power of a Class 4 laser, ensures quicker results, reducing both the time your furry friend spends in treatment and the overall cost to you.

wavelength

High Power Optimal Therapeutic Wavelength

The laser device we use emits wavelengths of 810nm & 980nm for optimal penetration and pain relief. These specific wavelengths significantly reduce treatment times compared to lower-wattage lasers, which are not only slower but also less efficient in reaching and healing deep tissue injuries. Lower-watt lasers necessitate more sessions and offer slower relief, making our laser treatments far more effective for rapid and effective pain management.

Offers Multiple Biological Effects

Class 4 lasers speed up tissue repair and cell growth, perfect for pet owners looking for a fast recovery solution for their injured dogs. They offer a warm hug of anti-inflammation benefits and gentle pain relief, boosting your furry friend's vascular and metabolic activities and helping them feel their best. Plus, this laser technology nudges your dog's nerve function towards improvement and helps balance their immune response. It even gently stimulates trigger points and acupuncture points, playing a key role in their holistic healing and recovery journey.

Canine Laser Therapy FAQs

  • How long will it take before I see improvement in my companion?

Improvement can often be seen after just the first visit. Your pet’s condition will influence the speed of recovery and the number of sessions needed. Treatments vary in length, but most cases require 3 to 4-minute treatment sessions. Laser treatments are cumulative, so each additional treatment facilitates a greater improvement in your pet’s condition. Some improvement is expected by the third session and certainly by the sixth. It would be a very rare case that had not dramatically improved by the sixth session.

  • Are there any side effects of laser therapy?

Laser treatment has no known side effects, and is considered both safe and effective across the veterinary industry. Laser therapy is classified by many as a ‘Drug-Equivalent’ therapy, meaning the effect laser can trigger in the body is the same end effect as if they had taken antibiotics or a pain killer. Yet this recovery occurs without the side effects of those medications since laser achieves its effect by improved internal signalling, not by suppressing or replacing an internal bodily reaction.

  • How does laser therapy for pain relief work?

Laser treatments are an excellent way to provide pain relief to your canine companion. Laser therapy reduces pain by reducing inflammation through 'vasodilation' (the opening of blood vessels) and activating the lymphatic drainage system, thus draining swollen areas. The result is a reduction in swelling which reduces pain. The lasers also stimulate nerve cells that block pain signals from being transmitted to the brain, thereby decreasing nerve sensitivity. Because there is less inflammation, less swelling, and an interruption of pain signals to the brain, your pet will experience less pain. Laser treatments also stimulate the production of high levels of naturally produced endorphins and serotonin, which further counteract your pet’s pain.

  • How does laser therapy for injury or surgery recovery work?

Laser therapy is a beneficial tool during postoperative recovery. In minor cases, laser therapy alone may be enough to alleviate pain and stimulate the healing process. Because it works directly on injured or affected areas, laser treatments can help speed up healing, strengthen muscle and tissue, improve mobility, and enhance your pet’s overall quality of life almost immediately.

  • What can I expect at my appointment? Are treatments painful or uncomfortable?

Unlike many of the human laser beauty or surgical treatments you may have experienced yourself, medical laser therapy treatment is not a ‘hot’ laser therapy. Medical laser therapy is totally pain-free and very comforting.

While the laser is being administered, your companion may feel a gentle and soothing warmth, tingling, or no sensation at all. For many patients laser therapy is very relaxing. As areas of pain or inflammation become more comfortable, any anxiety and tension your pet may be experiencing tends to quickly dissipate.

In fact, many companions quickly work out something really nice just happened and they will often race back into the centre next visit eager for another session! As therapists, we love seeing these clients go from being in pain and scared to becoming relaxed and more than happy to come back in the centre doors.

  • How can I schedule a laser therapy appointment?

Scheduling an appointment for veterinary laser therapy is as easy as picking up the telephone or sending us an inquiry through social media or our contact page at www.waterwalkies.com.au. Our knowledgeable, compassionate team can help answer any questions you have. We will need to do an initial assessment to determine the best treatment protocol for your companion to begin experiencing the benefits of laser therapy today.
